Fire by Friction

Weekend long workshop. Learn the basics of friction fire and carve your own bow kit! May 17-18 2025

Service Description

Fire has long supported human life. Gathering circles of people for warmth and storytelling, cooking our food and lighting our way on a dark night. In this workshop, we will delve into the ancient practice of fire-making through friction, with a primary focus on the bow-drill method. Our main goal is to learn how to carve and use our fire kits, as well as prepare tinder bundles. Come make your own bow drill kit and embark on a transformative journey of self-discovery and connection with nature! What to expect: - Carve prepped wood and harvest pieces of your own bow drill kit - Hands-on learning and mentoring tips - Mentors are using the art of questioning, challenges, humour and games to bring you closer to yourself, sisters, and nature. - Hands-on activities that might meet some of your edges, for growth and learning. All of this is held with compassion, with the importance of witnessing each other and getting to know one another, to create close bonds and a supportive community. - Resourceful time spent in nature: Timeless wandering to connect deeper with the land, the trees and the element of fire, helping you integrate the teachings you received. - Practicing and establishing some core routines that you can bring home for deep nature connection: sit spot, wanders in nature, sharing stories, gratitude practice, games, songs and more. - Basics of how to use sharp tools safely (knife, axes and saw). - Tapping into the mystery and beauty of what nature has to offer to us. -By the end of the workshop, you'll feel more connected to fire, armed with your brand-new bow drill kit to show off to family, friends, or your community.
